Director's Message

Professor David ClarkIt is our intention to make your visit to the WIRED web site as interesting as possible and we sincerely hope that you will return regularly.

What you see on the web site has been conducted mainly by a small number of people around the UK, most of them working in their spare time. In addition, we have received the help of users, ex-users, family members, practitioners, and others.

I am very proud of what the team has achieved, and from positive feedback I receive I know that many others are of the same opinion. Some people actually believe that we are a well-funded institute. If only! The work you see here has been supported by a very low level of funding.

The advantages of our approach of working at a grass roots level are appreciated by many key players. However, working in this way cuts across many funding stream opportunities - the substance misuse field is very much a top-down driven system. What we now need is for funders to appreciate what WIRED will achieve with adequate financial support.

David and AnnalieWe know our approach works, so we now intend to drive WIRED into the mainstream. We need to attract large scale funding, which we are committed to doing, approaching charities, government departments, companies, commissioners, potential benefactors, etc, for support. This will need the help, commitment and vision of others for our efforts to be successful.

You may be able help us in some way, no matter who you are - contact us if you would like to help in some way.
