About SDP

The Swansea Drugs Project is one of Wales' leading harm reduction agencies, providing a comprehensive range of treatment options for drug and alcohol misusers, and those affected by others’ substance use.

The agency was established in 1983, and provides an open access service whereby service users are able to present without appointment, and be seen immediately for assessment, crisis intervention, needle exchange, housing and benefit advice, brief interventions etc.

The agency offers specialist services for women, housing support, family support, relapse prevention, alternative therapies, HEP C support, and a separate specialist service for under 18’s, called Sandpit.

WIRED and SDP projects

SDP clients and staff are currently working with WIRED filmmakers, to offer their views and experiences of treatment, and describe the needs of people experiencing problems with drugs and alcohol. Kevin Manley and Mark Saunders, two WIRED volunteers also work alongside the filmmaker, offering their experiences of working on WIRED films, interviewing clients and advising on the edit.

Our other activities include:

  • Running discussion groups
  • Involving clients in experiential articles
  • Engaging staff to increase awareness of services offered
